A young family in Walthamstow; music, food and plant lovers, with two toddlers in a house they hoped to stay in for years. The bones were there, but the kitchen was too small for the lifestyle they dreamed of.

Open the ground floor, flood with light, seamlessly connect it to the much loved garden. Kitchen separate from, yet adjacent to living space where the kids could play outside, while the adults watch, and unwind inside. Storage for wellies (lots!).

A wrap-around single-storey extension that takes its cues from the life already lived there. Inside, a muted industrial palette: porcelain tiles, oak kitchen, built-in banquette seating, off-white steel-look windows spoke to our client’s northern roots. Clever lighting and exposed beams added perspective and depth. Outside, the much-loved banana tree became star of the show; its leaves animating the new facade like a living canvas as they catch in the wind. Soft landscaping on the south-facing elevation handling privacy and shade.
