This young, creative family moved into their dilapidated Wanstead house, previously unoccupied for eight years with a love of art, alfresco cooking, and a clear sense of what they wanted; a home that blends old and new.

A full house reconfiguration, a loft designed and a ground floor extension build to create space for the family to cook, eat, work and play without tripping over each other. Connection to the garden, storage and lots of worktop space, for cooking, were essential for our client and their young family.

A house brought back to life with care and a clear concept. The exterior is a study in considered materiality: handmade red stacked brick crests, Flemish bond humble reds and a feature ribbed, sandblasted Terracotta concrete blockwork base. A 10msq extension shifts the ground floor dynamic, creating a sense of flow. Glazed metalwork and golden globe lights nod to the client’s love of Klimt. Outside, a dedicated spot for the coveted Gozney pizza oven.
